Kent Chronicles

Thank you to Oleg Pynda, Executive Director of Ukrainian Community Center for presenting our Kent Chronicles this morning!
The Center handles service delivery for refugees and immigrants from former Soviet Republics. Pynda reviewed the waves of refugees into Washington starting in 1989, and the upbringing in the Soviet style system where religion prevented access to jobs and educational opportunities.
Refugees from former Soviet Republics in Washington state between 2000-2007 were 16,580, in 2015 there were 740 and in 2016 there were 1201.
The Ukrainian Center delivers social services as designated by the state, is accredited with Immigration authorities to represent refugees in court and has been certified as a mental health provider with three counselors.
