Contribution Guidelines

The GKHS quarterly newsletter, the Recorder, is accepting submissions from all members. Here are a few things to know if you’d like to contribute.

Contribution Guidelines

1. Please make sure articles fall into one of the following categories:

  • Stories From the Past (Historical episodes of interest, relevant to the Kent area)
  • Our Town Memories (Personal anecdotes that happened in the Kent area)
  • News/announcements (Relevant to GKHS)

*Photos to accompany your stories are always welcome! Please include names of people pictured and permissions for us to use the photos.

2. Please limit word count to 250 words or fewer for Stories from the Past and Our Town Memories; 100 words or fewer for news and announcements.

3. Please submit articles as email attachments in Word format to ctyofknt@msn.com.

Please include the word “newsletter” somewhere in the subject line, and in the email please include your name as you would like it printed in the Recorder and the category your submission is for.

*Submissions may be edited for length and/or clarity. We will try to get as many contributions as possible into every issue, but space is limited. Anything that doesn’t fit can go in the next quarter’s issue, provided content remains current.

*Questions or problems with attachments? Ask me.

Submission Deadlines

Please submit articles by the following dates and times:

  • Spring issue: March 15, 4 p.m.
  • Summer issue: June 15, 4 p.m.
  • Autumn issue: September 15, 4 p.m.
  • Winter issue: December 15, 4 p.m.

Folding/Mailing

We have tentatively scheduled to have newsletter folding and mailing with volunteer help beginning at noon on the Friday of the first full week of the quarter. For this year, that means:

  • Friday, July 8
  • Friday, October 7
  • Friday, January 6 (2012)

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, or would like to be involved in newsletter layout, or would like to volunteer to help fold and mail newsletters, please contact the museum office at 253-854-4330. Our goal is to make the Recorder the best publication it can be!
